Abel Rodriguez LCSW, LCDC

I am a Native Texan and I was raised in a family of 11 children to which I am the youngest. My childhood was spent in south Texas and migrating with my family as seasonal workers as well as working with my family in construction.
Due to fact that I am a 1st generation American citizen, I felt this great obligation to serve our country in the U.S. Army were I spent several years in Georgia, Tennessee, Texas and Central America . After the military, I spent several years looking for my passion and I have found that passion as a therapist.
I received my Associates Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas-Brownsville, Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Social Work from Texas State University-San Marcos.
I am currently Licensed in the state of Texas as a License Chemical Dependency Counselor and License Clinical Social Worker.
My practice began working in an outpatient Alcohol & Drug Abuse setting where I assisted in implementing the new State mandated Cannabis Youth Treatment which consisted in working with adolescents in a group, individual and family settings as well as being able to work with incarcerated adolescents. I then received a wonderful opportunity to become a Clinical Supervisor of the Kyle Correctional Unit where I supervised ten counselors in the clinical operations of a correctional therapeutic community inpatient treatment which I was responsible for the treatment of 250 men. In my strong desire to expand my expertise, I took a position with a local Hospice where I was tasked to develop policies and procedures for a New Bereavement center. The center grew and we provided treatment and support for over 300 people in one calendar year. During my time working in the Hospice/Bereavement Center, I observed so many people struggling at end of life due to a lot of emotional hurt and trauma which interested me in trauma training such as Trauma First Aide, Critical Incident Stress Management and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing.
I have been very active working in the community from providing consultations to local schools when faced with death of staff members or students, as well as assisting with children that are struggling academically due to parental divorce, deportation or incarceration. I have finally decided to open my own practice on the square downtown San Marcos. My current practice includes working with issues such as addiction, anxiety, depression, divorce, bereavement, trauma, behavioral health and behavioral issues.
